Sándor Szabó was born in Siófok (Hungary) in 1982. He has been principal trombonist of the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe since 2004. He studied trombone at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg im Breisgau with Prof. Branimir Slokar and graduated with a Master’s degree in 2006. Since his student days, he has played as a regular guest in baroque orchestras such as the Hannoversche Hofkapelle, with whom he can also be heard on several CD recordings. He is also a sought-after bass trumpeter throughout Germany and, in addition to his work in the Statskapelle regularly plays in productions with numerous opera and radio orchestras, including the Frankfurt and Leipzig opera houses, the Nürnberg State Theatre, the Stuttgart State Opera, the Hamburg State Opera, SWR Freiburg and Hessischer Rundfunk. Since 2016, he has been a lecturer for trombone at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe, where he has taken over a part-time professorship from Prof. Brandt Attema for three years from the winter semester 2024/25.
